Best present. Ever

My dad built me a bookcase and filled it with 121 books. Each book is wrapped in different paper

  1. Did your dad buy the 121 books as well, Squib?

Because that would be really impressive.

But it is a nice pressie.

  2. Yes, he bought the books and wrapping paper

I've never seen anything like it

It's too nice to unwrap. I think I'm going to leave it as it is and unwrap one as and when I need something to read

  3. So you don't know what the books are, Squib?

How do you know they're not all about pig shooting or something?

    And happy birthday, BTW.

  4. Thanks, Ramon

I just know that one of them is 'The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay' and another is a 2010 stargazing almanac

  5. And another is a used copy of How to build a bookcase.

  6. Holy crap! I am so jealous right now! That is possibly the best present I have ever heard of!

  7. Impressive stuff Squib. What an imaginative and really nice thing to do. Did you inherit your incredible kids' party skills from him?

Once again I sit in awe of creative people.

    And Happy Birthday of course.

  8. I just looked at the enlarged picture. It really is different paper on every book. I've never been to a shop with 121 different types of wrapping paper. He must have gone to lots of shops and remembered all the patterns he already had.

    Father of the Year.

  9. thanks, Wari. Yeah, he said it was harder finding the paper than the books and then he started to forget which books he had already bought

  10. Squib,
Tell your dad i think he's fucking awesome. And Happy BIrthday!

  11. Happy Birthday squib. I agree with everyone else, I am in awe and you need to tell him how impressed he has made a particular group of people.

If he knows about us that is.

I'm blown away. It must be nice to be so cared for. You deserve it.

  12. What a brilliant present, Squib. I'm betting your Dad (given his obvious awesomeness) chose wrapping paper that somehow ties in with each book.

Happy birthday. I hope you had a really lovely day.

  13. And he built the bookshelf as well - there's a lot of time and effort and thought involved in this present which makes it far more special than something someone just went and bought.

So, the pig shooting book is probably in the blood-red wrapping paper.

  16. I will be stealing that idea if you don't mind.

  17. Will do, Mr E, thanks

Melba, I'm very touched though I wish he hadn't spent so much because he's not exactly loaded

Kettle, it could be ten years before I get around to Byatt now

    Random, by all means...

I will pass on TSFKA’s general fucks and awesomes, thanks

  18. Your dad is 122 different kinds of awesome, Squib.

D'you think he'd adopt me? I'm not very good with hammers & nails & whatnot, but I can wrap a book real good.

  19. EMS beat me to it - I was going to ask to be adopted too. Although my dad does come over once a week and cook me dinner so that would be hard to give up!
Happy Birthday, gorgeous present, what a great dad.

  20. Maybe he could take both of us, Leilani? I don't eat much, do you? I might drink more of his beer than he'd like though (does your Dad drink beer, Squib?)

  21. Yes EMS, we can be his new set of twins. We can get my biological dad to cook for us because our new adopted dad will be busy building us shelves and wrapping up books.

We of course will be too busy reading.

We'll be great sisters Squib. We promise not to tease you in front of your boyfriends and we might even let you borrow our clothes.

  22. Happy birthday Squib. You are fortunate indeed to have such a wonderful Pop.

  23. EMS and Leilani, OK. You can both sleep in the galleon he built in the backyard. EMS, he drinks that nasty Coopers brew

    Thanks, MCL

    You take that back Squib!

Can't be any worse than VB, can it?

Hmm. Maybe I'll bring my own beer, just to be on the safe side.

Ramon: Don't pinch my adoptive internets sister or you'll get a Chinese burn that'll bring tears to your eyes.

  26. You give Chinese burns like a girl, EMS.

  27. That is the most awesomest present everer. Happy b'day Squib
