ReplyDeleteSo far I've got on my list The Book Grocer in Brunswick and a whacky Buddhist vegetarian restaurant in the city.
Kettle, why not go to The Book Grocer in Northcote and there is a really great second hand book shop up the road from there called Brown and Bunting. There are plenty of cafes in High Street as well.

There's nothing wrong with lazy.
ReplyDeleteMy flatmate said the other day that I'm exactly like his mother in that I like beer, sleep & being lazy. She was awesome as far as I'm concerned.
Anyway, is it really being lazy or are you just delegating? I like to delegate. A lot. I don't think that makes me lazy, I think that makes me smart.
In fact Kettle, you could just spend the day in High Street, Northcote.
ReplyDeleteStart the day with a big breakfast and coffee while reading the papers here.
Then take the tram up the road to browse at the many, many book shops and cafes before taking lunch here where you might see some of your favourite bloggers having a quite beer in the large beer garden.
And why not finish the day watching bands here or here.
Well, that's your Melbourne visit sorted then.
I think most people here are from Melbourne, but are there any from Sydney? I'm going down there for my birthday weekend, and need some ideas.

Kettle, Ramon's given you the skinny on High Street. The only other suggestion I would throw in is Foxy Brown in South Cres, instead of Alphabet City, better beverages. They have a website.
ReplyDeleteAlso I can definitely vouch for the Peacock especially for weekday lunches. They have a $10 special Mon Fri and I go there way too much. Just make sure you go around the back to the bar/beer garden and not the cafe style room at the front because they have different menus. Open fire inside, beer garden outside.

ReplyDeleteI was too busy woofing down a delicious roast chicken dinner as wot I cooked myself.
There wasn't really much to recap, Witchie. Gillard couldn't manage to talk enough about health and education, and allowed Abbott to make it all about immigration and spending. Abbott was typically negative about everything, attacking the government's policies, but not offering up any of his own (other than that horribly annoying "action contract" he kept spouting).

ReplyDeleteI have several days in Melbs so I can have breakfast at both the Alphabet Cafe (thank you Ramon) and Foxy Brown (merci Leilani). And Witchy, my God I'm looking forward to some chips with Euro-mayo at 4am on a Sunday morning (I have a theory that potatoes are the most perfect food-stuff on the planet, especially at 4am, and especially with Euro-mayo, and especially on a Sunday).
So the Peacock was the site of the infamous 'lemon' exchange, eh? Who am I to resist such a venue? If anyone frequents said place on weekends, lemme know (or should I say, lemony know).
PS Puss, I live in Sydders. I think Surry Hills on a Saturday afternoon is a top place to be: cafes, pubs, markets. Noice.

I spend most of my time around Newtown, and a good place for a drink/dinner is here.

ReplyDeleteI don't really have much planned. We're going down on Friday night and seeing the Busking for Change show at the Annandale (three of my favourite artists are playing). Saturday I'm having lunch with my sister who lives there, and then Saturday night we're going out to a Spanish restaurant for dinner.
Everything in between has yet to be filled in!
My sister used to live in Surry Hills, and I visited her there once, but I don't really remember much of it.
