Now what are they going to use?

Bananarama - no relation to Barak Obama, sadly.

I’m delighted that Barak Obama is now President of the United States and not for just the usual reasons.

Part of my glee stems from the fact that the fuck-knuckles of the Australian loopy left will have real problems with an Obama Presidency. Not because they will, in any way, welcome President Obama; in their heart of hearts they despise the democratic process and actually believe the US is a quasi-fascist state.

No, the reason is that when the Obama administration does something which displeases them and they take to the streets, do you think they’ll be able to burn pictures and effigies of a young, progressive, charismatic, black President?

I don’t fucking think so. That’s not going to play too well on the evening news.

Expect to see more generic “Uncle Sams” being denounced, burnt and spat on in the foreseeable future.

Ramon's 30-second guide to Federal politics

Ahead of the leadership biffo in the Federal Liberal Party.

1. "Half" Nelson squeaks back.

2. "Half" continues to tank in the polls.

3. Six months later the Libs, mad with despair and rage, elect Turnbull. Dennis proclaims "Liberal victory is just around the corner".

4. Kruddy goes late in 2009 and is rewarded with an increased majority, with the Greens holding the balance of power in the Senate.

5. Dennis spends the next three years, warning of a "Labor-Green Alliance" until his brain explodes.

6. Nation rejoices, declares Kruddy "President for Life".

OK, so I'm not so sure about the last bit.

UPDATE.

It's Turnbull - 45 to 41.

Dennis preparing tomorrow's lead

"In a bold move that has put the party back on the road to victory, etc, etc, etc"

Sorry Dennis, Costello the Yellow isn't going to run

The Mad Monk is at it again with a piece coming up in Quadrant magazine, describing Peter Costello as the Liberal Party's "best political asset".

Tone writes

"So much turns on whether he recovers the will to serve, which so clearly (if understandably) wavered in the aftermath of the last election.

"Only Peter Costello can decide whether to carry the tag of 'greatest prime minister Australia never had
.”

Tone, Tone, Tone, get over it sweetie. Costello ain’t going to run, not now, not anytime in the future. He said in November last year that he would be leaving the Parliament “at some time in the future” and nothing has changed.

The sooner the Libs get over their Messiah complex, the better.

The divine Ms G also weighs in with a choice crack

Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard joined the fray, calling Mr Costello's upcoming memoirs "a book with spine from a politician without one".

But the best putdown comes from “Michael” in the comments section.

If costello is the best asset they have its time to blow out the candles because the party is over.

Michael, I salute you sir. You can come over and write for TSFKA anytime.

Ramon's 14th Nightmare

Enough political la-de-da.
