Hot tip is that Jules will announce the date of the 2010 Federal election tomorrow (Friday 16th).
Most likely date is last August - probably 28th.
The Party's election slogan will be
That Abbott, he's a shifty cunt isn't he?*.
* Although that may change after the focus groups.**
** But not any focus group I'm a member of.

Abbott, ah, manna from heaven
Nooo! They can't ruin my birthday weekend with an election! Bastards!
My birthday weekend always gets ruined. Stupid BCC always holds the stupid Riverfire during my birthday weekend, and no one ever turns up to my parties because they're all too concerned about standing around outside watching coloured fire balls in the sky.
They're just fireworks people! They are the same every year! They've been around since the 12th century! There is nothing great about them! Get over it!
I'm not bitter or anything, though.
You think you've got it bad, Puss. My birthday is on Australia Day which means I can't even go out without running into 100 billion flags and dick biscuits running around congratulating themselves for being Australian
I love elections.
Looooooove 'em.
Handing out HTV cards, good natured joshing with the opposition, having a sausage at the sausage sizzle and the exquisite pleasure of going into the voting booth and putting the Liberals last.
Not to mention the election night piss-up at the local footy club.
My condolences, Squib. That is infinitely more awful.
I pick my voting station on whether they have a sausage sizzle. This rules out all council offices, but adds in local primary schools. The prescence of old ladies selling jams and cakes also is a winner.
The Boy's school is hosting the Federal election this year.
We're going to be having a fair, with carnivale rides and sausage sizzles and everything!
Democracy in Australia is a wonderful thing.
Who would have guessed Puss is a 'perfectionist' Virgo?
I was born on August 13th which means I get to enjoy my birthday on Black Friday again this year. Being left handed, I was pleased to discover that August 13 is also international left handers day.
Who would have guessed Puss is a 'perfectionist' Virgo?
Patchie, you're lucky Perseus isn't here with a comment like that!
Just an observation, don't get excited lol.
It wasn't obvious?
Puss, Squib, I feel bad for you guys and would happily give you my birthday, if I could. It's free and clear of stupid festivities and I never use the darn thing. Hell, some years, I don't even remember I have one.*
*I should probably start making more of an effort, though. It can be a bit awkward when someone asks you for your age or date of birth and you can't give them an answer straight away.
I keep forgetting I'm 30 now.
But I figured that was just old-age setting in.
you're lucky Perseus isn't here
While he's not - is he a Sagitarian by any chance?
Pers has the same star sign as me.
We were both born under the sign of the cunt-cunt.
Could I ask for TSFKA insight into the Laurie Oakes stink bomb thrown at the Press Club yesterday?
Catlick,
"Tis a tale told by an idiot,
Full of sound and fury,
Signifying - nothing".
You've got to love Laurie. It's his 18th federal election this year. And I've used his Vince Gair tactic to good effect several times.
Elections: I've seen a few. Haven't cast a formal vote for years, except in '04 when that one-legged. vefetarian, lesbian, cancer-surviving, mum-and-dad dwelling, 19-year-old student, Jess Healy, was the lead Victorian candidate for the Demo-rats.
I numbered every box and put her dead last because I was so insulted that the party would have putup someone who'dnever fended for herself and was such a Leftie lovie cliche as its lead candidate. Don Chipp sure choked on his Horlicks when he found out...
Idon't vote with good reason. Compulsory voting is undemocratic. I dislike both major parties and regard voting for others as a waste of time. And I reckon I know more than most about Australian politics. I've seen how it works. I'm highly informed and I will hang on every word on election night. Love it. But I've seen up close how it all works and I just don't want to be a participant.
Cue a bunch of people telling me people fight and die for the right to vote and that I can't have an opinion without having a vote. Bullshit. I have very strong opinions. One of those relates to my right not to vote.
I'm not sure why other people would be concerned as to whether or not you vote, Jamie. It certainly doesn't bother me. And while in no way similar to what you're talking about, I spent years registered in a part of the country where the Nationals won by a huge margin in every election, both state and federal. Certainly took some of the shine of the process.
I'm just used to having to defend that position, Alex.
Hmm. After giving it some consideration, Jamie, I guess I shouldn't be quite as surprised as I am. People get their backs up about all kinds of odd things, I suppose.
