Robespierre had a very bad press.
Well the catch up with Melbs, Mr E and Kettle on Saturday was ace.
Much beer was drunk and many lemons were...errr...lemoned.
Over the course of the conversation, we discussed a number of ideas about the future of this blog. In the spirit of half-arsed democracy that hovers uneasily, I wouldn't mind getting your feedback about where we should be headed.
Would people like;
* More posts analysing the meeja/politics?
* Book/film reviews?
* Obscure/possibly fanciful aspects of history?
* Amusing cat stories?
* Stuff that passes over my mind?
I know Kettle is keen on more PSF, so I'll crank that sucker up again.
Or should we just say "enough is enough" and put this puppy to sleep?
Over to you.

I had a great time on Sat'day--tops to meet you three, Melbs, Ramon and Mr E.
Now Ramon, stop all this nonsense about putting this blog-puppy to sleep. Sheesh.
Perhaps there simply needs to be some more contributors? From the list, Ramon, you're the only one who contributes regularly.
Nooooooo! No putting to sleep, PLEASE!!!!!!!
I'm happy with this blog as it is. I'm going away for over a month so I will be quiet for a while
and post whatever takes your fancy, I mean this, as I am always telling my family, this is not a restaurant, you get what you're given!

Of course we would!
I always love a good lemoning, Ramon.
To your post:
No euthanasia Ramon. No.
But please, add squirting to the list of topics, I was surprised to see you'd left it off.
Can we just keep it going how it is? Would you be open to seeing if anyone would like to volunteer to contribute? Or have you already done that? There might be someone busting a gut to do some posts (not me btw.)

Yes. Please.

No!!!*
*Exclamation abuse is for extreme emphasis; as is reluctant use of smilie >:-(
I vote for everything on that list and I also vote for no sleeping puppies.
Oh, and I like voting. There should be lots of that.
Ramon,
My take-away from Saturday was the passion that you have for the media and politics, in particular politics in it's historic context. You need to post more on that IMHO.
That and Lutherans.
I understand the time pressures you face, and would like to see more people invited to post, as so many of the original group have dropped off the perch. Although, you could free up a bunch of time by the simple act of giving the boy an ATM card.
Killing the Puppy would have been a seriously good thread back in the TSSH days. But not with todays audience.
I for one keep popping by for the wit and commentary on all and sundry... give us more, not less of EVERYTHING!
Cath's right. we do have the right to be entertained without contributing!

Hear, hear. I want free entertainment too.
But, since things look to be straying towards serious talk, I may as well give a serious answer to the original question. For me, the highlight of the site is the discussion that sometimes gets going here in the comments. The posts have been great, but really, I don't think they need to be too much more than simple conversation starters.
More contributors also sounds good; but from memory, the last time that was brought up, all the likely candidates declined on the grounds of "not being able to write anything interesting enough". I wonder how much has changed?
And Mr E:

What?
OK.
So the puppy lives.
Phew. That's all I can say.

Ramon, can you publish your favourite poem tomorrow? If you haven't already, or recently. And if it's not too personal. And if you have a favourite.
You can ignore this of course.
Ramon, ignore Melbs at your peril.
And mine. I am 7 months pregnant, and VERY hormonal.
Actually, can we have some book/film reviews? They don't have to be all well ordered and deep and meaningful like in the papers where it's more about the reviewer flexing their writerly muscles and being insightful and getting writing credits by being published. They could be like 'this fucking sucked' or 'I liked this but I can't really say why' and then people can comment if they want.
I just think there needs to be someone other than Ramon who posts semi regularly, to take the pressure off him.
I vote yes to all of the subjects suggested and wish I could contribute in an adult and interesting manner but sadly acknowledge I am a terribly boring person. My only vaguely interesting piece of trivia currently being disseminated was from Horrible Histories and about scottish soliders being given tights to wear in the trenches during the second world war to assist in prevention of injury caused by ... um ... injurous (and probably spelt wrong) chemicals. And though I rather fancied the thought of hulking scottish warriors tramping about the mud in stockings I doubt it is of general interest. I submit myself to your superior edifications.
I wish I could contribute, but all I've done over the last few months is re-read my terry pratchett novels and watch It ain't half hot mum.
I've got a girlfriend so I'm boring as hell. Tonight we're watching series 2 of Breaking Bad.
Pers,
It is possible to have a girlfriend AND still engage with the wider world. Hitler managed it. Try harder.
It is possible to have a girlfriend AND still engage with the wider world.
Yeah Pers.. I second that. Stop being a pussy and write something. Surely you could at least offer a book review or two?
I saw the latest Twilight films recently (don't ask - it was not my choice). My review - "it could have sucked worse - but it still sucked."
I was going to say it's been a while since we had a post on Perseus's love live but a movie/book review would be the next best thing. I could offer my services but as the last two movies I saw were Happy Feet and Smurfs I don't expect to get onto the contributor list anytime soon.
Patchy, the last two movies I saw were Drive and Troll Hunter, both of which I would heartily recommend.
