Over the past fortnight the over-paid sock puppets in the Canberra press gallery* have been working themselves into a lather about the ‘crisis” in the Rudd Labor Government.
Remember them; Fuelgate, Neilgate, Gategate** were all supposed to spell “the end of the honeymoon period for the Rudd Government” with some of the more excitable types speculating that Kruddy might be a “one-term wonder”.
And indeed, all the media noise does seem to have an effect, with the latest Newspoll showing support for the government and Kruddy himself going up.
Two-party support for Labor went up, from 57 to 59 per cent while satisfaction with the Kruddster rose from 56 to 59 per cent.
All the blather, the endless speculation, the mindless re-hashing of the same tired clichés from the gallery has had absolutely no impact. The super-minds in Canberra still seem unable to understand that the punters like Kruddy and they’re prepared to trust him.
The gallery has always been an insular, self-important lot but now they have apparently lost the plot completely.
* I have met a goodish per centage of the gallery over these many years. Many of them are cunts.
** I don’t know if you are aware of Gategate. Apparently there’s a farm gate in Gippsland that’s a bit squeaky. “Half” Nelson has been demanding the government “do something about it. WON’T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE SHEEP”.

You forgot Iguanagate.
It seems to have been a slow news month politically - it's all been squabbling over small-fry stuff, like fuel prices, and Belinda Neal, and similar zzzzz-es.
Iguanagate is covered by Neilgate, Boogey.
Slow news month? It's been a slow news year.
Poor old Dennis Shanahan must be weeping himself to sleep each night, clutching his signed poster of John Howard.
Yeah, but Iguanagate saounds so much better.
Neilgate sounds more... Young Ones-ish.
Is Dennis Shanahan related to Brendan Shanahan?
"Do you really think anyone's ever the slightest bit interested in anything you ever say or do Neil?"
Such a statement might get you quite the smack in the mouth, seeing that Belinda Neal is closer to Vyvyan than Neil in temperament.
Quite.
Love this site.
Rudd's strategy of dealing with the conservative media is classic 'rope-a-dope'.
Brumby's doing the same thing with the Vic Liberals, though 'dope' has extra meaning in this case.
Thanks, Red.
Kruddy and Gillard drive the Tories in the media nuts by refusing to take them seriously.
Gillard is particularly good at it.
She has that amused glint in her eyes that says "yeah, go ahead and ask that question - you pathetic nobody".

Gillard is particularly good at it.
She's also good at driving the Ineffectual Left in the media nuts too. Her work on 772 with John Faine this morning was a delight to behold. She was holding Faine at arm's length on the IR issue while he desperately windmilled his scrawny arms trying to land a blow, any sort of blow.
I've said it before and I'll say it again.
Faine is a crap interviewer.
When I was at the ABC, there was much rolling of eyes in the newsroom whenever Faine was trying to conduct an interview.
I'm reading The Latham Diaries at the moment (yes yes, 3 years too late) and he has some scathing things to say about the press gallery.
Basically, superannuated hacks relying on the same old sources and constantly getting it wrong. For e.g no-one predicted Latham would be opposition leader.
Off topic, but it's worth reading just for the Keating quotes.
Latham: "Those hacks in the Press Gallery never predicted I'd lead the Labor party to such an embarrassing defeat, hand old Rat-brows a majority in both houses, then proceed to a Chernobyl-sized meltdown. Bwahahaha, I sure showed those suckholes how it's done!"
Ah yes, the 2004 election.
I remember waking up that Sunday morning thinking "Gee, I've got the worst hangover of my entire life and The Rodent is still in power.
"That's just swell".
And stayed in bed most of that day.
'Della-Bosca Iguangate' was Los Lobos's second single from their third album.
