Ignore the power of Squib's badges at your peril*.

All praise the Welsh Wonder
It’s Gillard.

Well, yes, I was wrong and I’d like to thank the world for pointing that out to me (even the cat had a supercilious look on her dial this morning).

For the record, I think this was a mistake.

However.

We would have won under Rudd.

We’ll win under Gillard.

I’m still a bit gobsmacked that the caucus could be so easily rattled. I can only assume the internal polling must have been horrendous but still.

Expect an election, probably in October.

*I’m expecting Charles Darwin to make a come back any day now.

I'm sure they'll be celebrating in Cardiff. Do you think it's too late for me to jump on the badge bandwagon?

Alex, the last Welsh-born Labor PM was Billy Hughes.

That didn't work out so well.

squib said...

I think this was a mistake

No it wasn't

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

Why so, Squib?

I've been asking around the comrades and the mood is one of huge relief.

Mind you, they had the same feeling when Latham got up.

I'm stoked there's a female PM, but I'm not clear on the points of difference between Ruddy and Jules. I thought they were pretty aligned in terms of policy, in which case this leadership change is more a PR act than anything else?

squib said...

Well she's female which makes her superior to begin with. Also, Australia loves her. I feel sorry for Rudd but he was all used car salesman and religiousy

Plus just think what a fortune I can make with my Gillard badges now!

squib said...

Is she an athiest? Does anyone know?

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

Kettle, my take on this is that there will be very little policy change.

The Party decided Gillard would be able to communicate them better and be more consultative/flexible.

How she performs on the campaign trail is anybody's guess.

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

Is she an athiest?

I believe she is, Squib.

Start cranking out the Gillard badges now.

squib said...

I believe she is, Squib

Now I'm just in raptures. I will vote for her forever and ever

Kettle said...

Thanks Ramon.

Squib, since your badges are so portentous, can you make me one with a picture of me and a lotto ticket?

I agree with Squib. In some ways an openly atheist prime minister impresses me just as much as a female one.

Also, I kind of expected Kruddy to come out joking and trying to laugh this whole thing off in his usual manner. I'm surprised to see him this shaken.

squib said...

Kettle, my special badgy powers only work in the mysterious corridors of government. If you want to run for the seat of Kalgoorlie, I may be able to help you

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

Just watched Kruddy's presser.

Good on him for staying classy.

Could this be the beginning of the "Ranga Uprising" that EMS warned about some time back?

First comment from "teh left" complaining that "Julia Gillard is a sellout" coming in 3, 2, 1...

C'mon Julia Eileen!!

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

Hey, Three Squares, how are you voting?

Oh irony of ironies, I wore my Darwin badge to work this morning because I was unsettled about this whole thing.

Like Ramon, I was unsure but I'm starting to think it's a good thing, because Rudd was clearly hated within the party and also because I just heard Julia's cracking parliamentary comebacks to Julie Bishop. God she's good.

Oh, and hearing Abbott saying "I would like to address my question to the Prime Minister, what does she say to..."

So, I might put Darwin away for a while and start wearing Julia, until the worm turns. Which it will as Ramon implied. I was always too embarrassed to wear my Kevin, because I think by the time I got him, he was already ovah.

I'll wear her to the chemist now to get my antibiotics. Yep, not working out too well for me, have to start on them. Feeling worse than a few days ago. Plus I miss dinner at Circa tonight!

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

Sorry to hear you're still crook, Melbs.

The sniping from "teh left" has already started about Gillard.

"She says she'll be harder on asylum seekers", "she's backing down on the super profits tax."

Well, no she didn't and no she isn't.

The way to keep Abbott out of The Lodge is to vote Labor.

Melba said...

Thanks Ramon. I'm hoping it's not pneumonia, which I had a slight case of ten years ago, and it's kinda feeling the same.

Joy of joys.

Crawling into bed now.

patchouligirl said...

What a shock. It would have been sweeter to see a woman elected by the people but still good to have one as PM. I feel sorry for Kevin, I liked him and I'll miss him.

catlick said...

It seems easier to get a Victorian into the Lodge than into a Test team.*

*Not actually true but it had to be said.

come.to.mumma said...

But Ramon, what we really want to hear is more about your dream shouting match with Greg Combet. Thanks in advance.

wari lasi said...

Ahhh Julia,

We love you so. How will you now handle the inevitable divorce with the far left that will claim to have got you where you are?

That be the crucial question.

Left origins and rational policy don't go together, we all know that.

Vive La Ranga Revolution!

(Did I? When was that?)

I think it's a good thing Rudd has gone, I don't like how smarmy he was getting. I'm not comfortable with how it was done, but there you go.

I heart that there's a female PM in Australia, I heart that she's a ranga, and I think she's awesome.

Almost makes me want to buy a plane ticket home. (That and the fact that it's so hard to get work here & the tennis goes for ages & ages & there's so much fricking soccer on tv, but the crisps and chocolate make me want to stay. Maybe Julia can do something about the standard of crisps & chocolate back home?)

Anonymous said...

I'm sure she'll be right on top of it, EMS. But I too remember your warnings of the coming Ranga Uprising - back in the days of The Hangover, I think. I must admit to having had my doubts, but yesterday I noticed Virginia Trioli, Kerry O'Brien and Julia herself making possible allusions to it, and now I'm not so sure. I wonder what Leigh Sales will have to say, tonight.

And Lindsay Tanner isn't going to contest the next election. I think I'm going to cry.

patchouligirl said...

Pauline Hansen must be spewing.

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

I'll mention it to her the next time we chat, EMS

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

On, BTW Squib, the fundis are upset Jules didn't take her oath on the bible.

WitchOne said...

Wow! She didn't take her oath on the Bible? How on earth did they get away with that one??

I keep forgetting about the small rituals we observe in this country that have religious origins that we ignore completely.

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

The Mad Monk probably believes she took her oath on The Communist Manifesto

squib said...

Are you sure, Ramon? It's not on Google

Anonymous said...

Pauline Hansen must be spewing.

Maybe the others were waiting for her to leave before making their move.

the fundis are upset Jules didn't take her oath on the bible.

I'm liking her more and more.

Do you think the no children thing is going to get much of a run before the election?

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

Not everything's on Google, you know Squib.

Do you think the no children thing is going to get much of a run before the election?

Apart from Wilson Tuckey, Alex?

No, not really.

Anonymous said...

I think that was Heffernan, originally (yeah, what's the difference). I ask because I just heard someone refer to her as "The Baroness". Classy stuff, eh?.

Melba said...

Wilson or Heffernan? Or was it both of them bastards that made a comment?

Anonymous said...

Heffernan said something along the lines of - "Anyone who chooses to be deliberately barren is unfit for leadership". Tuckey might have had a crack too, I don't know.

Mr E said...

Can't wait to hear Bob Browns reaction to that.

RandomGit said...

I'd love to see her vault the parliament floor, grab him by the lapels, shake him like he's a petulant 5 year old and scream through her teeth "why, WHY, why is that, tell me, well?, why, WHAT THE FUCK, answer me, ANSWER me you maggot!"

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

I think we'd all like to see that, RG.

Remenber, the Tories get in this year - that man will be a senior member of the Commonwealth Government.

And Julie Bishop will be Foreign Minister.

Anonymous said...

And Julie Bishop will be Foreign Minister.

Yes, on the subject of being unfit for leadership. Don't forget that she'll also be deputy PM. Which means she'll be acting PM whenever Abbott is elsewhere. And theoretically, I guess, one really bad Abbott media gaff from having the top job. Scary.

Melba said...

Bob Brown's reaction, if any, would have been yonks ago because that's when Heffernan said it, Mr E.

Also, new movie coming soon: Julie and Julia, but with no cooking. Just a whole lot of cracking come-backs on one side, and whimpering on the other. Can't wait.

catlick said...

Melba ... tres droll.

Ahhh yes. The Hangover, I'd forgotten about all that. It's all coming back to me now.

I'll mention it to her the next time we chat, EMS

Cheers Ramon. That'd be ace. Especially if it can all be arranged & in place by the time I get back. Kthx.

patchouligirl said...

"Anyone who chooses to be deliberately barren is unfit for leadership"

The last red haired woman with no children to run a country was Elizabeth I and she did an excellent job.

I don't like tradesmen who arrive to do some work and then take a dump, and I feel the same way about spammers leaving their shit here.
and who is Julia's Black Adder?

Kettle said...

Oh Catlick I know what you mean! A couple of weeks ago a plumber (who was here to reseal the shower base) asked if he could use the bathroom. I said yes, imagining a quick wee then back to work, but no! This dear gentleman took his sweet time taking a dump, laying some cable in the fibre network, dropping the kids off at the pool, etc, and I was left with skid marks and a better idea of what crossing the line means when it comes to strangers in your bathroom.

Also, I'd like to know, why can't they time their poos better so they're at home when the need arises?

Unknown said...

Esp. when they spell article as "artical", no?

Although, the poo thing is probably worse than bad spelling thing. But, still.

Kettle: You should deduct some of his fee for that. Or make him clean the loo.

At least tradesmen usually fix something while they're there. Spammers are like people who come to your house just to take a messy shit.
