Chick drummers are kinda hot!

Woot
I recall a schoolboy coming home
Through fields of cane
To a house of tin and timber
And in the sky
A rain of falling cinders
From time to time
The waste memory-wastes
I recall a boy in bigger pants
Like everyone
Just waiting for a chance
His father’s watch
He left it in the showers
From time to time
The waste memory-wastes
I recall a bigger brighter world
A world of books
And silent times in thought
And then the railroad
The railroad takes him home
Through fields of cattle
Through fields of cane
From time to time
The waste memory-wastes
The waste memory-wastes
Further, longer, higher, older

I quite like Sarah Blasko.

really? You don't seem like a Sarah Blasko person to me. She's a bit twee

We all have our twee moments now and then, Squibalene.

I can't stand Sarah Blasko for exactly that reason.

My flatmate adores her. We saw her at Falls & he said he just loved the cute little way she dances.

I think the way she dances is ridiculous. It makes me want to slap her upside the head.

At this point, I don't think I need to say it, but I've never heard of Sarah Blasko.

Chick bass players are hotter, Ramon.

Squib, EMS, I'm shocked you two think Ms Blasko is both 'twee' and makes you (collectively I assume) want to 'slap her upside the head'.

How can anyone not like a gal who wears dresses with concertina sleeves?

Seriously, concertina sleeves.

Although, there definitely are some lyric tragedies on her latest album (not least the entire 'Is my baby yours?' - gah).

Anyhoo, Ms Blasko aside, how marvellous are Angus and Julia Stone? (I'm happy for that to be a rhetorical question if you two music meanies, Squib and EMS, have anything other than worldly praise for the family Stone).

Ramon, Alex, where are you two on Angus and Jules?

Oh, honestly Alex!

You'll be telling me you've never heard of Eddy Current Suppression Ring, next.

Yes Ramon. Yes I will. But, thanks to Grooveshark, after only one day of housework, I can confidently express a bunch of half-informed, half-considered, half-arsed opinions on all of the afore mentioned musos.

Sarah Blasko: Generally inoffensive, if a bit bland. I thought the music was pretty good in a couple of tracks, but the sort-of-nasally vocals didn't add too much. I also looked at a video of her dancing and decided it wasn't that awful.

Angus & julia: Simple but nice. More sort-of-nasally vocals, I noticed*, but I think they make it work alright. Thumbs up, although I won't be rushing out to buy any of it.

Eddie Express Ring Thingy: I don't know enough about music to properly articulate why, but I didn't like this very much at all. I think the simple and repetitive nature of the music got on my nerves too quickly. Like, a lot of the songs sounded more like five minute long intros to songs. Or something. I dunno.

*Are sort-of-nasally vocals all the rage with the kids now? Even the young German lass who won Eurovision this year sounded like that. Is Björk now popular again?

Cue segue: On the topic of memories, remembering, and, following on from that, promises kept and broken, when did an election promise, core or otherwise, become a "vow" as in "Julia Gillard today "vowed" to retain school chaplains "etc....wtf?

My guess is that it's just become fashionable as an option for journalists who're sick of writing "promised", "pledged" or "committed", Catlick. Kind of sounds more weighty and emotional too, I guess. I also have a suspicion that the trend has not been particularly limited to elections, either. But as for when it started, it'll take someone with a longer memory than I to say for sure. It wasn't Julia herself who said it, was it?

Oh, and I see that without anything else of any substance to talk about today, "Action Man" decided to up the rhetoric on boat-people. Will Jules respond by "toughening up" her position too, I wonder?

I heart the Stone siblings and will hear naught against them. Naught, y'hear.

Bjork is awesome & can buy me a pear cider anytime she wishes. As long as she's not wearing that swan outfit (it wouldn't go down well here in North London). I don't wish to get in the middle of an altercation just to defend her, so that she can shout the next round.
