Perseus and Bob Make a Film - Day 5

The Valiant

I skipped days 2-4 because Perseus wasn't involved. However we were required to lure him away from his family for several hours just prior to Christmas so we could pick up some additional shots on the beach on day 5 - the final day.

The film is now in the can and has been submitted to tropfest. Will we be short-listed? I think there's a chance. Will we make the finals? Probably not.

A metaphor for the film-making process

Perseus hoping he has a hanky

Bob looking forward to savouring the cool feel of plastic while Perseus loses focus again

Bob wondering if fake blood comes out of polyester

Once a) the film has been rejected or b) Tropfest 2010 is all over, I will provide a link to the film if anybody's interested in seeing it.

I'd love to see it, Lewd. Cool pictures indeedy

If they judge a film on the quality of its actors, my lame talent will most definitely eliminate the film from the finals.

I was terrible.

Lewd Bob said...

Yes, we're a little short on acting talent, plot and narrative. But it looks great!

That surely makes you a natural for Tropfest.

And you appear to be pulling the trigger of your gun with your middle finger!

Melba said...

I too look forward to the "release."

Short on all those things, and a hanky it seems. Should have had Alex on set as "Hanky Man." He has no less than three on his person, so I've heard, at any one time.

What's the vintage of the Valiant? My bro has one in his garage in Canberra that has fins and everything. It's a '60 and absolutely fabulous.

I drove it for a few months a few years ago. Coolest car to drive and if I'd had a penis, I would have had an erection every time I drove it.

Perseus said...

I thought the plot was strong. With no script whatsoever, one man hitchhikes, one man catches a train and one man drives a Valiant.

The end.*

*except the last few seconds where for some reason they shoot each other.

And you'd be able to reverse park!

Mr E, beware Melba's seemingly angry response. It will in fact by humorous.

except the last few seconds where for some reason they shoot each other

Fuck off.

catlick said...

Um, sorry to interrupt, but it's 3 fer and we might be in with a sniff.

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

More than a sniff, I would have thought.

Melba said...

Ha, Bob. Touche.

I think I have stated here before that I am confident I could equal if not out-park any XY-chromosome person on this blog, and indeed the wider community.

Recently, I have read there is research on women whose ring fingers are either equal to in length, or longer than, her index fingers. I am one of these women and so have a "male brain" according to the article. Also it means that I am good at parallel parking, which is true. That must have been the only way they could think of testing the hypothesis?

I have a male brain. Beware my power.

Puss In Boots said...

My ring fingers are way longer than my index fingers...

I can't parallel park, reverse or read a map very well. And I can't tell my left from my right.

Mr E said...

No point having a male brain without having the principal decision making organ to go with it.

Melba said...

There goes that theory then.

Hey Puss, that article on BPD, was it you that was interested?

I've re-re-located it and am ready to scan and email now!

8 fer. Dare I hope? Punter is no Brenda Leigh Johnson....

I never knew that it was easier to reverse park with an erection. I swear, something new every day.

Lewd Bob said...

If you were reverse parking in front of the whorehouse perhaps Alex.

Ha ha.

Ah the cricket.

As a proud owner of the limited issue of Lewd Bob's Best of 2009, I would like to comment on:

1. the cover. Excellent work to get the Valiant in there, as well as Blurry Perseus Q.

2. the selection. At a glance, I will know as many as on P's Top 10 for the Decade. Which means probably one or two.

3. the sheer bloody generosity of you making the copies, packaging them so nicely, mailing them out, and including your address on the back.

And the cricket. How'd they manage that?

My dad had a Valiant once. It was crashed into twice in three days

What Melba said about Lewd Bob's CDs. Thank you kind sir. Mine arrived today and so far I've only heard the first half of the first one... loving it!

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

I'd suggest the Pakistani cricket authorities might like to check the phone records and bank balances of certain Pakistani players.

Lewd Bob said...

Thanks for the kind words Melba and CTM You do realise, however, that this is one of those Godfather-type arrangements. One day I might call on you...

Ah Ramon, you are society's leading cynic. I just want to wallow in Aussie pride!

WitchOne said...

What do you reckon the chances are of all the CDs' being mailed at the same time? Should I check my post office box?

I'm very excited! It's like a late birthday present! In fact, that's what I shall call it.

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

Thanks Bob.

You say the nicest things.

Kettle said...

Bob, thanks for the CDs; they're brilliant, and couldn't have arrived at a better time. Just last night I accused a friend of liking (and trying to get me to like) hairless man-boy shit-pop. Now I have three hours of music with just the right amount of hair on its chest to throw back at him.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

RandomGit said...

I like the look of this film. You seem to indicate it is more a study of style than story but that's ok, Australian films for mine lack in the style department.

catlick said...

I'd suggest the Pakistani cricket authorities might like to check the phone records and bank balances of certain Pakistani players.

Apparently the capacity to bet on specific opposition player performances, rather than win/lose/draw, is the best opportunity for dodgy stuff.

Melba said...

I suggested to Clokes (who keeps an eye on these things, ie actually watches the cricket)that the Pakistanis might have taken a dive, and he quipped they probably paid themselves to do it. So a couple more cynics over in our fair suburb!

Bob, we listened to both cds last night. I enjoyed all of the songs. Clokes didn't much, but then again he likes heavy metal stuff. Yes, I know, it's embarrassing.

So thanks again. Anytime you need a favour, you know where to come.

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

All I'm saying is that the Pakistanis played like a bucket of wet shit for the entire morning session of the fourth day.

Bob, does your film have a sound-track?

It looks very Ry Cooder-ish.

Lewd Bob said...

Yes Ramon, a friend composed the music. It is very Dead Man Neil-Young-ish.

You're welcome Kettle and thanks again Melba. I'd love to hear which tracks you ultimately like the most.

RandomGit you're right. Style was the objective. We were more or less road-testing some new camera gear and attempting sort art shots and unfortunately the story was a little secondary.

Witchy, all CDs were mailed together - check the box.

Oh, I'm interested in seeing the film alright.

It looks awesome.

You do realise, however, that this is one of those Godfather-type arrangements. One day I might call on you...

Oh, but ... if you do, I'll be on the other side of the hemisphere. No fair.

Haven't got mine yet, but I s'pose it does have to swim the Strait. I hope it put floaties on for the journey.

Melba said...

Bob, just listened again to CD#1. These are the ones I liked the most on second listening:

6, 7, 10, 11, 15 and 19.

I share your love of the carnival hurdygurdy sound.

WitchOne said...

Has it Hurdy Gurdy on it??!!

The Greta Garbo hommmme for wayward boys and girls...

Had it on tape, wore the tape out boring other people with the song. LOVE IT!

Hey Bob, any chance of posting the track list from this CD? Its getting rave reviews.

There's been a slight delay with yours shitbmx, as, through a moment of mental lapse - otherwise known as stupidity - I forgot to put your street number on the address. It has been returned to me. I shall try again today. I'm sure this thing isn't beyond me.

any chance of posting the track list from this CD?

Hmmm, what can I offer Bob? I babysit (cos it does seem like it would be good parenting to entrust your child to an internet stranger), cooking, cleaning... I even mosaic when I bust the craft nerd out!

It arrived!

Love it. It's so full of awesome that I'm going to make room for it in my backpack when I leave.

And that's a serious endorsement, most of my stuff I'm either selling or leaving behind.

Two thumbs up, Bob. You're a champ.

Thank you EMS. Glad the pigeon made it.

CTM, I'll get back to you. Probably should discuss it with The Missus first.

And thank you Obtuse, for your 3-disc, genre-spanning, individually titled mixtapes. Lovely. Truly unexpected and much appreciated. I promise I won't hate it.
