And in breaking news...
As I made my journey and drew near to Damascus, about noon a great light from heaven suddenly shone about me. And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, 'Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me?' And I answered, 'Who are you, Lord?' And He said to me, 'I am Jesus of Nazareth whom you are persecuting.' Now those who were with me saw the light but did not hear the voice of the One who was speaking to me. And I said, 'What shall I do, Lord?' And the Lord said to me, 'Rise, and go into Damascus, and there you will be told all that is appointed for you to do.' And when I could not see because of the brightness of that light, I was led by the hand by those who were with me, and came into Damascus.
"And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well spoken of by all the Jews who lived there, came to me, and standing by me said to me, 'Brother Saul, receive your sight.' And in that very hour I received my sight and saw him. And he said, 'The God of our fathers appointed you to know His will, to see the Just One and to hear a voice from His mouth; for you will be a witness for Him to all men of what you have seen and heard. And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name.'
All of which is a long-winded way of saying
MY GLASSES ARE FIXED!!
Woot!

So being without your glasses for so long, have your noticed your other senses sharpening?
Can you hear through walls and feel colours now?
Oddly enough MCL, I can now sense when a pub selling Coopers has opened.
Oh, wait.
I could always do that.
PRAISE THE LORD!
Completely O/T, but do I recall a time when EMS was referred to as Lusty EMS? Because I was travelling behind a truck with a mud-flap that had that on it yesterday, and it jogged my memory.
PRAISE THE CAT!
A Brisbane truck had "Lusty EMS" on its mudflaps, Puss?
How very odd.
Again, I might be missing a joke here and just stating the obvious; but isn't Lusty EMS a brand associated with stuff to do with trucks? They manufacture trailers or something, right?
Are you calling Alex's avatar a liar, Witchy?
Um, I have spent a fair bit of time in the country - much of it on farms. And my dad was a truckie for a short while (a bikie too, just in case I show any bike related knowledge in the future). Er, I am into synchronised swimming, if that helps.
That would make complete sense then, Alex!
Synchronised swimming, Alex! Would that be partaking in a feminine way, or ogling in a masculine way?
Sorry. Is this verging on cyberbullying? If it is, I take it all back.
The Lusty brothers run a firm in Melbourne manufacturing truck trailers. This may explain the dirty flaps. They also used to run a V8 touring car at Bathurst each year that DNFed either because of a spectacular mechanical failure or from coming off second best in an overly lusty
id-corner overtaking move.

See ? I wasn't bullshitting.
I certainly don't feel like you're coming anywhere close to bullying me, Melba. However, I am starting to sense that I might be causing you some undue annoyance and frustration here. For that, I am sorry.
Also, I don't know any blokes who watch synchro, even to ogle at it. I guess that some probably do, but since I'm not big on hand bags and shoes like Puss, it was the best I could come up with. If you can think of any "decidedly feminine interest", I could tell you whether or not they tickle my fancy, but I can't really imagine anyone here being particularly interested in that.
Wow, interesting stuff on the tele tonight. How's everyone directing their bets on this one?
Yeah where's Ramon with his commentary? Didn't he just recently say Rudd would take the ALP to the election.
I'm calling a spill, though I thought his press conference was fairly impressive. Problem is the party members have the vote this time, not the gimps sitting at home watching.
I'm not sure how I feel about it. Don't like the instability.
Lusty EMS is owned by MaxiTrans these days
Me too Melba... and yeah, I'm sure Ramon predicted no leadership change too. And I fear that even if Julia does have the numbers to overthrow Krudd tomoz, the Australian voting public isn't ready for a female PM yet. And so Labor will be chucked out. Even though cunty Abbott doesn't seem like a viable alternative to me.
Where is Ramon, indeed. Probably in bed, I guess.
Yes, my guess is that Julia might just take it - but what I'm really curious about is whether or not that would actually translate to an boost in the polls.
That interview with Peter Garrett nearly had me in stitches. Poor fellow.
oh and I thought Krudd's presser was fairly strong but a clear 'vote for me, I'm just the best' push. And did you notice he didn't answer the question about Julia remaining as deputy if he's returned as leader? And fuck me I hate that "I have a mandate given to me by the Australian public" stance. Way too fucking Howard-ish for my liking.
And while I'm being all mouthy (and weighing into the debate months late), for what it's worth, I never considered that Alex was male. Maybe because a friend's daughter is named Alex too, or just because our Alex never seemed particularly masculine to me.
Thank you CTM, that's somewhat reassuring. Actually, didn't Witchy once say that I sounded exactly like a female friend of hers? Someone who had something to do with chicken soup, or something?
I just have a feeling that this whole mess is going to be bad for Labor, regardless of the outcome. And yeah, there'll be some people who won't vote for a party led by a woman, but Gillard isn't without legitimate shortcomings, either. Of course, they could run a corpse against Abbott (Weekend At Burnie's style) and I'd still vote for the corpse. I quite enjoy watching the man clown around in opposition, but the thought of him actually running the country gives me chills.
Wow, just got the news. Does this mean Jules might be heading over here for the G20?
My place is round the corner from the G20 protersters HQ. Yesterday I passed a group of protesters playing with their smart phones.
The hard core anti-corporate/capitalist/globilisationists have smart phones, and I dont.
Presumably Dr G, yes.
Be strong Dr G. You haven't brought into the corporate/capitalist/globalisation market. Well done you.
And you're welcome, Alex. Although I hope what I said didn't appear rude. I fretted a little about that after I published it. And yep, I vaguely remember Witchy saying something like that. But can't be arsed trying to find it.
But "Julia has legitimate shortcomings"? Gasp. Nevertheless, this all so interesting I might have to re-join the electoral roll.
Yeah, I remember someone, somewhere talking about a truck with Lusty EMS written on it.
I'm sure you're all wondering, but no. I've not returned to Australia to make my millions in the trucking industry. Although it's looking like a good idea right now.
What's this I hear about Gillard & Rudd? I expected to read something balanced & informed here, instead of having to rely on the ABC news website & news.com
The budget was announced (are budgets announced, or are they handed down, or what?) over here the other day. Economically speaking England is kaput. But the really big news was that the budget briefcase is being retired, so next budget there will be a brand new, shiny briefcase. I think they should save the money & spend it on education or something, but what would I know.
Also, England just beat Slovenia 1-0, which means they haven't been kicked out of the world cup. There isn't dancing in the streets or anything, but I'm sure once everyone's had a skinful that will change. The dudes next door at the Algerian cafe are devo because the USA scored a late goal to beat them 1-0.
As for Wimbledon, the press were going nuts over here at the thought that Andy Murray might not bow to the Queen. No-one seems to know exactly where the story came from, but I'm sure you'll all be relieved to know that he's stated he will indeed bow to the Queen. Phew. I know I feel better knowing that.
That's all I got. No more news.
Oh, except I had a day supply teaching on Monday so I get to eat this week! Woo hoo!
P.S. Ramon: Hooray for new glasses!
Interesting, of the last 4 Labor Prime Ministers, only one has been voted out of office.
I reckon Jules is most similar to Hawkie. If she can shed the unionist stigma while maintaining her down-to-earth charisma, she could put in a decent knock. Very few politicians have the ability to make the electorate love them, but she could be one.
In further word news.
We just had an earthquake!
Golly, Dr G, there seem to be a lot of those around recently. Was it serious?
I have to disagree with you slightly on Gillard's charisma, though. I find her very impressive when arguing in parliament or in a format such as Q&A, but she strikes me as just a little unnaturally measured in one-on-one interviews. I think a year or two more of incubation as deputy would have done her good.
And thanks for the news, EMS. Sorry about not providing any coverage on our end, but I for one don't feel confident about having a crack when there are political veterans of Ramon's calibre on here. I was so excited that I couldn't sleep properly last night. Like a kid on Christmas Eve.
Oh, and you didn't seem rude at all, CMT. I really appreciated it.
I've been having nightmares all night (including a very interesting one where I got into a shouting match with Greg Combet).
I'll write something once the result is in.
What can I say?
I can't think of anything that wouldn't sound smug.
I do look forward to your post match analysis Ramon.
Almost as much as I'm looking forward to Julia running on as full forward with the Dogs on the weekend.
Where's Perseus? How do you like them Tigers? I'm going to be in the member's at the G next Sunday to watch them smack the Swans.
Oh, here's some thoughts: What's the new cabinet going to look like? Will Kruddy stay on? If Julia wins the election, will the media be able to resist the "wins by a nose" jokes?
