What. A Pack. Of Bastards.

The Age notes here.

Labor MP Craig Thomson cannot be guaranteed a parliamentary "pair" to attend the birth of his child if it occurs during the period of the carbon tax debate.

"We have made it crystal clear that only in the most extraordinary circumstances will pairs be offered for the carbon tax vote," Mr Abbott told reporters during a visit to Tumbi Umbi in Mr Thomson's NSW central coast electorate of Dobell.

Update.

Tones has now announced he will grant a pair if Mr Thomson's wife goes into labour.

Smooth move, Tones.

I see The Herald website has this article up twice (virtually). Once under the heading...

Abbott won't guarantee 'pair' for Thomson if wife gives birth

...and again under the heading...

Abbott doesn't rule out pair for Thomson

...with both articles noting "No request for a pair has come from the government in relation to Mr Thomson".

You're right, though; you'd think this one shouldn't even be in question.

Abbott sucks dogs balls.

On the plus side, shit like this makes it even easier not to vote for the Coalition. Go Tones!

Tones is indeed the gift that keeps on giving.

Abbott is *such* a dick. Really.

I see Abbott now seems to be saying it was all a big misunderstanding and of course he can have a pair.

I don't even know if there was that much of a story here, but I agree with all sentiment suggesting that Tony is one of the best things that Labor has going for it at the moment.

Do you think our parents became so disenchanted with politics? Is it truly The Times or is it us (me) getting old and becoming jaded and cynical?

Melbs I'd like to say our parents didn't become so disillusioned... they mustn't have, since I was brought up Labor?

Hey I'll prob be flying into Melbourne Sunday 5 November, in the morning. You free in the arvo?

I won't speak for others' folks, but mine became cynical bastards due to the Vietnam war. Therefore, I was raised a cynical bastard.

I know a lot of oldies who are still stars-in-their-eyes National party supporters, though. Why is anyone's guess.

My parents were ALP as well, It's Time and all that.

Do you mean Sun 6 Nov or Sat 5th Kettle? Sun 6 no good for me, have something on. But if it is the 5, no wuckers.

I've got a father who usually votes Liberal and is annoyingly, a climate change sceptic, citing Ian Plimers book as his sole source of information. My husband is a complete Greenie. My father in law is a die hard Labor man. It's so much fun when they all get together. None of us can believe Dad would entertain the idea of voting for Abbott though, we reckon he's going senile.

Did your dad vote for Howard, patch? Not such a leap then. But if he didn't, well, hmmmm.

Patch, so long as he doesn't start quoting Andrew Bolt, I'd say there's still hope.

Yes, he's a huge Howard fan. No Bolt quotes . . . yet.
