A gift for Ramon

I was trawling through the photos of my trip when I came across this one. I was tempted to buy one of these cute pinecone creations for Ramon, but everything in the picturesque town of Fussen was exceedingly expensive.

I think all of Ramon's Christmasses have come at once, surely?

I still have the owl you sent me from Latin America, Puss.

I call him Malcolm, because of the goofy expression on his face.

I flick rubber bands at him from time to time.

Malcolm. I can see that. The one made of gourd I got you was even goofier. You could probably have called him Tony. Sadly, he died in a nasty Customs fire.

How very apt.

And in breaking news, a small wooden owl has just been elected as the new leader of the opposition.

I'm just back from seeing my father in Bowral (pretty place), who is knocking at death's door incidentally, and his wife is an owl freak. They're everywhere, on bookshelves, peeking out from under plants in the garden, in the bathroom. It's spooky.

Sorry to hear that Wari.

Both about your dad and the owls.

I'm hoping that after the leadership spill they come out and say, "Ah, it's all too hard. We gave up, and the party's folded."

I was hoping they'd announce a merger with the Greens and would be henceforth be known as "The Glibs".

I'm walking around with a big smile on my face.

I read that he's (not my dad, which he is, but Turnbull) hanging on by the skin of his teeth. I wonder who made up that saying by the way? I only get skin on my teeth if I don't brush them for a few days. Eeww, I hear the ladies say.

And Ramon, thanks for the commiserations. I said to the old man, "So, what's the prognosis?" "Well, I'm just bloody slowly fizzling out."

Nothing like a bit of Irish stoicism.

Oh my! I love them! How much were they, Puss?

You're a sick, sick woman, Squib.

I can't exactly recall, Squib. I just know I looked at the price and then reeled back in shock at the thought of paying so much for a pinecone. I believe it was in excess of 10 euros.

Sorry to hear about your dad, wari.

Happy to hear about the Libs.

A bit indifferent about the owls, but tipping towards "like" but not as much as "want".

Thanks Melba.
