Nobody heard him, the dead man,
But still he lay moaning:
I was much further out than you thought
And not waving but drowning.
Poor chap, he always loved larking
And now he's dead
It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way,
They said.
Oh, no no no, it was too cold always
(Still the dead one lay moaning)
I was much too far out all my life
And not waving but drowning.
Also, a review of a book I’ve been reading; God’s War: A new history of the Crusades by Christopher Tyerman.
The Crusades – in hindsight, probably not a good idea.

Maybe I should keep my own book reviews to that length.
Reminds me of the Spinal Tap scene, where they bring up the two-word review of their album 'Shark Sandwich'.
"Shit sandwich".

You know how they release those albums with Classical Greatest Hits (Fur Elise always in there, and Nessum Dorma). Well, if they did a poetry's greatest hits, that one would be the Fur Elise.
if they did a poetry's greatest hits, that one would be the Fur Elise.Which is just as well because his cricket career was going nowhere.
Nice post. Lovely short and sweet poem, if a little morbid. And probably the most succinct book review I've ever had the pleasure of reading.
Thanks Wari, I've always loved that poem.
Seeing as how the book is 922 pages long, I thought I'd keep the review short.
In other news, Bud Tingwell has died. Here's my obituary, as emotional as I am capable of getting:
He was a top bloke.
He was a top bloke.
No greater compliment can you pay a man.
Bud's finest work will always be on The Late Show with "The Piss Weak Kids".
Thanks Ramon, I love that poem (and incidently I love Fur Elise, although it depresses me)
Poems about death are indeed ace, Squib.
Do you write many poems about death?
No
I'm writing a poem at the moment about the global recession. Of course, death is more fun
To quote TISM.
"Amway, Amway, Amway.
"Death, Death, Death."
That's one of my favourite TISM songs. It's the second best rock song with bagpipes ever.
I do have a soft spot for "If you're creative, get fucked".
My favourite TISM song is 'The Men's Room'.
The fingers that knot my tie
Are fat with some success;
But they tremble - still so slightly,
So far only I notice.
In the far off wilderness
A lone hyena calls.
I've gone and pissed thirty years
Up against a wall. It's my theme song.
I am very sad that I only discovered TISM a couple of years ago and the White Albun is the only thing that's still on sale.
I remember taping Great Truckin' Songs from Perseus circa 1990. And I think we saw them live at the Old Greek Theatre in Richmond, although there's a chance this may have been a figment of my imagination unless Perseus can confirm it.
