Now what are they going to use?

Bananarama - no relation to Barak Obama, sadly.

I’m delighted that Barak Obama is now President of the United States and not for just the usual reasons.

Part of my glee stems from the fact that the fuck-knuckles of the Australian loopy left will have real problems with an Obama Presidency. Not because they will, in any way, welcome President Obama; in their heart of hearts they despise the democratic process and actually believe the US is a quasi-fascist state.

No, the reason is that when the Obama administration does something which displeases them and they take to the streets, do you think they’ll be able to burn pictures and effigies of a young, progressive, charismatic, black President?

I don’t fucking think so. That’s not going to play too well on the evening news.

Expect to see more generic “Uncle Sams” being denounced, burnt and spat on in the foreseeable future.

I must confess I hadn't looked at it that way.

Political correctness comes to politics. What delicious irony.

Now that it's over can we have proper tv back? Even HBO had it on.

I love the way you think, Ramon.

Read on for some comments from those marvellous post-Blairite-whatevers at Harry's Place.

The answer to their rhetorical question is "Yes". Get set for some even more asinine conspiracy theorising than ever before.

Harry's Place, January 19 2009

Now that his favorite enemy, George “El Diablo” Bush, is on the way out, Hugo Chavez is already going after his successor.

Somehow I don’t think it’s going to work as well for him this time...

The Venezuelan leader said that Obama is following orders from dark forces inside “the empire,” as he refers to the United States. “If he doesn’t obey the orders of the empire, they’ll kill him,” Chávez said, without offering details or proof.

Is this destined to be the “anti-imperialist” Left’s mantra about Obama: that he is not actually in control, but simply the tool of those with the real power?

Rest easy, Christian.

Jeff Sparrow is even now furiously blogging that Obama believes in CAPITALISM!!!!1 and the people's revolution cannot now be far away.

I think that's my old mob's lead story today, Ramon.

On this historic day, my thoughts go out to all Americans, but in practicular to my former mother in law, Miss Betty. 'Bout now, she'll be a'sittin' on the back porch in beautiful Fitzgerald Georgia, as night falls. Her only company, her faithfull hound dawg, her trusty AK47 and Jeesas. Gentle tears running down her cheeks as she sees the lights, hears the laughter and the music from the Black part of town, which she affectionately calls "Niggers Quarters", wondering how things all of a sudden went so terribly, terribly wrong.

Meanwhile, on the other side of country, Sidney Poitiers Agent is planning a big comeback.

I may be howled down for saying this, but Guy Rundle's pieces on the US election annoyed me so much that if I ever meet Mr Rundle, I will be sorely tempted to bop him one.

I like Obama's ears. They're cute.

We all know who the true puppet masters are - the writers of The West Wing. Reel life plotlines suspiciously become real life events.

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

I refer to the document Protocols of the Elders of the West Wing.

Melba said...

Are they small, Perseus? I didn't notice them behind all the Large and Inspiring Words.

Large ears are a sign of generosity, apparently.

I'm in mourning today. For I have finished West Wing and I have nothing left to live for. Feel sorry for me, everyone.

wari lasi said...

Sorry for you Melba.

What's this "following" thing that's appeared lately? It sounds cultist. If I decide to "follow this blog" do I have to shag a goat or anything?

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

And blow-me-down if Comrade Sparron hasn't popped up on today's Crikey, denouncing Obama as a OMG, OMG, OMG, CAPITALIST!!

Melba said...

I think it's kill a goat, and shag a woman in a sheer robe, Wari.

Thanks for your pity. Any suggestions as to what next I should watch?

Perseus said...

His ears are like Adam Gilchrist's ears a bit. I want to tug on them and make funny animal noises.

Melba: I'm about to start on 'Dexter', because everyone tells me it's ace and I've never seen a second of it. We could watch it together and compare notes.

wari lasi said...

and shag a woman in a sheer robe

Well, ok then, if I must. And I believe Perseus may have just propositioned you. Isn't he the confident one, after his weekend of debauchery with the goth cricketing chick.

I'm so culturally deprived (or is it depraved) here that I can't recommend anything. I'm a bit of a Discovery/Nat Geo/History channel kind of guy. When I'm not being forced to endure Nikelodean or Disney or Cartoon Network.

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

Aircrash Investigation is a must-see for me, Melba.

Except tonight.

When the cunting tennis is on.

wari lasi said...

It's on Nat Geo all the time Ramon, have you got cable? Seconds from Disaster is great too.

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

Wari, there is something compelling about that mixture of calm, English voice-over and IMPENDING HORRIBLE DEATH!!!

catlick said...

Melba, Perseus, I recommend Dexter 1 & 2. I found both series even better than the books. (Plot lines changed for the better I think) Enjoy!

wari lasi said...

Yet again Ramon I concur.

"So what did cause flight 845 to crash into the remote hillside with the loss of all 212 passengers and crew?" He says in a dead monotone.

wari lasi said...

I didn't notice them behind all the Large and Inspiring Words.

You mean the Large and Inspiring Dental Work, surely Melba? What a set of chompers he has. The cartoonists are going to have a field day with them. As Ramon infers, they aren't going to be game to go the lips or the hair, or anything with even a remote racial overtone. Are they?

Melba said...

Re Dexter.

I'VE ALREADY WATCHED IT. We own the first two seasons, I even got the second one with crime scene tape and rubber glove.

I heartily recommend Dexter, it is indeed ace, and am hanging for the third. Yes, I have no life.

Wari, I don't think Perseus was suggesting we watch it together together, I think he meant in tandem in our respective abodes, and then discuss via our technology. We have a modern friendship, don't you know. We can be friends without ever having met. I'm finding these are the best types of friendships.

I'm waiting for Lie To Me to start on Feb 2. I want to watch something and learn something and, well, you know, just watch something for a change!

I'm convinced I might learn something.

Obama, rhymes with Osama. Oh, that's been done. We shall see whether the world collapses and he gets blamed or whether the world collapses and it really is his fault.

I liked the followers being called the Pers. ex brigade or whatever we were for minute. It made me feel like I was a part of something.

Louche said...

Mad Men.

So much better than gory crime shows, more sex and smoking than the West Wing.

I have already heard several times today that Obama's hands are tied by the Zionist conspiracy. At least that fucker Bush is gone. At last.

Puss In Boots said...

Speaking of Dexter, I've just watched Seasons 1 and 2 in the space of about 4 days. And I've started on Season 3, but sadly I only have the first 9 episodes.

I watched Seasons 1 and 2 of Mad Men in about the same time period, but I was missing eps 10 and 11 of the second season, so when I got to 12 I was rather confused. Have you seen them Louche? Can you fill me in?

I recommend Pushing Daisies too. It's a bit weird, and the main girl irritates me, but it's a good weird. I like the narrator.

Louche said...

No, I have only watched season 1. Have downloaded second season though. Dexter and his on-screen sister got married in real life. Eww!

Puss, are you writing in from some exotic foreign locale?

Puss In Boots said...

That depends if you class a former stronghold of pirates as exotic! I keep imagining it as the scene in Tortuga from Pirates of the Caribbean.

Too bad there are so many annoying Americans around.

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

You're back in Brisbane then, Puss?

Fad MD said...

Travelling the world watching DVDs. Sounds great!

Puss In Boots said...

Nope. Not till the middle of the year, Boogey.

And yeah, Fad. Only at night though. I don't drink and I hate pubs/clubs, and there's not much else to do in these places at night if you're alone.

Anonymous said...

That's the second* time someone's confused me for Ramon.

All I can say is, you'd better be devastatingly handsome and successful with the ladies, Ramon.

* actual number of times may be wildly inaccurate

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

In my younger days, Boogey, I never lacked for female company.

Now - not so much.

And I'm married.

Natasha said...

Witchie, when you're involved, we're all Witch One's Which Ones... You take the floor and there's no room for the rest of us ;P

Oh and hi everyone, I'm ba-ack, Christmas and New Years go OK?

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

I'm tickity-boo, Aesophia.

Pers. is having girl troubles again.

Puss In Boots said...

Oops! Sorry to the both of you. I didn't read the name, and just assumed a comment about Brisbane came from you, Boogey.

I'll bring you back a souvenir to make up for it. You like hammocks?

Anonymous said...

It's ok, I wasn't seriously offended. Ramon, however, may feel the need to face off with pistols at dawn.

I like hammocks (who doesn't), but I must say I'm très impressed by your insouciant lack of concern for luggage restrictions, to the extent that you'd consider carting a hammock halfway across the world for a blogger you've never met.

Ramon Insertnamehere said...

I'm more miffed that Aircrash Investigation has been bumped for the second freakin' time by the tennis.

Goddamn cunting tennis!!!!!!!

I recommend Pushing Daisies too.

I haven't seen any of these shows but I do know a few people who download a lot of television. From what they tell me, if you like 'Pushing Daisies' you should probably check out 'Dead Like Me' too.

Puss In Boots said...

They fold up fairly small. And there's always postage. You'd be surprised how much you can fit in your luggage when you only have one pair of shoes and no handbags.

Louche said...

I refuse to believe you went travelling for six months with only one pair of shoes.

Puss In Boots said...

8 months actually. And if you count thongs as shoes, then I have two pairs. But I do miss my wardrobe. It's a little weird wearing the same 3 shirts and 2 pairs of pants for this long. And I don't think I've ever gone this long without wearing a skirt or dress before. I have the worst t-shirt tan ever.

WitchOne said...

No handbags???? Are you insane?? How do you carry stuff??

Puss In Boots said...

In a 50L backpack, Witchie. And my pants have pockets otherwise. It's best not to carry a handbag around these parts. Especially if you're a tourist. You're likely to lose it. I can't say I don't miss my handbags though.

Louche said...

Very impressed miss Puss!

WitchOne said...

I couldn't do it.
